Prices checked 24 October 2026.

₦150,000 buys a basic phone now, not a mid-range one. Under ₦150,000, Jumia mixes real phones from itel, Honor, POCO, Xiaomi and Infinix, plus renewed handsets, little-known brands and crossed-out prices that were never real. This guide separates them: what is worth buying today, which "discounts" to ignore, and what to check before you pay.

A phone listed at ₦101,260 with a crossed-out price of ₦288,000 is not a ₦288,000 phone on sale. The crossed-out number is just a number. Compare real phones, not discounts.

Xiaomi Redmi 15C 4GB/128GB₦129,990 on one listingOther Redmi 15C 4GB/128GB listings were ₦173,998 and ₦183,704, so the price depends heavily on the seller

The same Jumia page lower down shows the part that matters before you pay: a free return within 7 days for eligible items, a 1 year warranty, and the seller's score and followers.

Slot lists the Redmi A7 at ₦146,900, in stock, with a UNISOC T7250 chip, 3GB RAM that can borrow up to 3GB more from storage, 64GB storage, a microSD slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 13MP camera.

Which one should you buy?

  • Best all-round pick: the Redmi A7 at ₦142,769. It is an Official Store listing with a 1 year warranty and a 7 day return window. It has only two buyer ratings so far, averaging 2 out of 5, so read the comments before you order.
  • Biggest battery: the itel A200+ at 6000mAh, or the itel A300 Plus at 7000mAh if its flash sale runs and you can get one.
  • Lowest price from a known brand: the Honor Play 10 from ₦128,300. Choose a seller with a clear warranty line.
  • More storage: the Redmi 15C 4GB/128GB, but only from a seller with a warranty, and only near ₦130,000. At ₦173,998 it is no longer a budget phone.
  • If you can stretch to about ₦172,000: the POCO C85 6GB/128GB, which holds 4.4 stars from 165 ratings on Jumia. It is a better phone than anything in the table above.

How much has the price jumped?

In March, Mobility Nigeria priced the Redmi 15C 4GB/128GB at ₦127,900 and the POCO C85 6GB/128GB at ₦142,900 on Slot. On Jumia in October, the Redmi 15C 4GB/128GB mostly sits at ₦173,998 to ₦183,704 and the POCO C85 6GB/128GB is ₦172,285. The stores differ, so it is not a perfect comparison, but the direction is clear: the same phones cost roughly ₦30,000 to ₦55,000 more than they did seven months ago.

Tecno Spark 50 and Infinix Hot 70 prices

On 24 October the cheapest Tecno Spark 50 4GB/128GB on Jumia was ₦229,499 from an official store listing, with other sellers between about ₦232,000 and ₦285,000. The cheapest Infinix Hot 70 4GB/128GB was ₦224,887, with other listings from ₦224,899 up to about ₦280,000. Both are well outside this budget.

How to read a Jumia listing

  • Ignore the crossed-out price. A phone at ₦101,260 showed a crossed-out ₦288,000. An Infinix at ₦148,130 showed ₦220,000. Neither is a real previous price you can count on.
  • Read the seller block. Look for the Official Store badge, the seller score and the number of followers. The Redmi A7 seller shows 96% and 4,529 followers.
  • Read the warranty line. The Redmi A7 shows 1 year and the itel A300 Plus shows 12 months. The Infinix Smart 20 HD listing states none, so ask before you pay.
  • Real RAM is the first number. A listing for the OUKITEL C26 at ₦142,000 advertises "16GB (4+12)", which is 4GB of real RAM and 12GB borrowed from storage. The Redmi A7's 3GB "up to 6GB" works the same way.
  • Check for "Renewed". Cheap results include a renewed OPPO A56 5G at ₦108,000 and a renewed iPhone 6s at ₦100,800. They are used phones, not new ones.
  • Aim for 64GB storage at least, and 5,000mAh or more. WhatsApp media fills 64GB quickly, and a big battery matters when the power goes.

Check before you pay

  1. When the phone arrives, dial *#06# and compare the IMEI on screen with the box and the receipt.
  2. The NCC is enforcing type approval through its IMEI-based Device Management System and says flagged devices face disconnection after 30 cumulative days, per our 12 October report. Dial *315# and choose option 1 to check a phone, and see our guide to the NCC device check.
  3. Switch it on in front of the rider if you can. Check the screen for dead pixels, the cameras, the speaker, both SIM slots and the charger.
  4. Keep the box and the receipt. Jumia's return window on eligible items was 7 days.
  5. If the software misbehaves later, our guide to flashing your Android without a computer explains the options.
