Full Program Details
Plenty of people worry about where powerful AI is heading. Far fewer understand the technical tools researchers use to test, steer and control it. BlueDot Impact offers a free way to learn them. Its Technical AI Safety course puts you in a small online discussion group, led by an AI safety expert, that works through alignment, interpretability, evaluations and AI control in either six days or six weeks.
The course is completely free, runs online, and has cohorts starting in November and December 2026, each with its own application deadline.
Details at a glance:
- Host: BlueDot Impact
- Cost: free, with no hidden costs
- Format: online, cohort-based, with live Zoom discussions in groups of about eight
- Options: an intensive of about six days at five hours a day, or a part-time track of about six weeks at five hours a week
- Last 2026 deadline: 29 November 2026, for the part-time cohort starting 7 December
- Deadlines close at 23:59 anywhere on earth

What You Will Learn
- Alignment and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF)
- Mechanistic interpretability
- Evaluations and red-teaming
- AI control
- Scalable oversight
Each day or week includes two to three hours of reading and writing, plus a two-hour live discussion. All discussions are facilitated by an AI safety expert.
Who Can Apply
BlueDot says the course is for three groups: researchers with a background in machine learning, computer science, maths or a related field; engineers and other technical people who want to move into safety work; and high-potential people early in their careers. It tells applicants who do not fit perfectly to apply anyway.
The course runs online and the official page lists no country restrictions, so readers in Africa, the UK, the US and elsewhere can apply. Discussions run live, so check the session times fit your time zone.
Before you start: you should understand the basics of how large language models are trained and fine-tuned, gradient descent, and how AI progress depends on data, algorithms and compute. BlueDot offers a free two-hour, self-paced AI Foundations course for this, and it strongly recommends its AGI Strategy course first, though that is not required.
What Comes After
Graduates can join BlueDot's optional Technical AI Safety Project sprint, a five-week part-time project course starting 16 November 2026 (applications close 8 November). BlueDot also runs Rapid Grants for participants who come out ready to build something.
How to Apply
- Decide between the intensive and part-time track and pick a cohort from the table above.
- If you are new to how language models work, finish the free AI Foundations course first.
- Open the course page on BlueDot's website and click Apply now on your chosen cohort.
- Submit before 23:59 anywhere on earth on that cohort's deadline.
GizPulse Verdict
Who this is for: Developers, data scientists, ML students and researchers who want a structured, free way to test whether AI safety work suits them before applying to paid programs such as the Anthropic Fellows Program.
Who should pause: Complete beginners with no idea how a neural network is trained. Take the free foundations course first, or you will spend the discussions catching up.
One tip to stand out: Treat the application like a short research note. Name one safety problem that worries you, explain it in plain words, and say what you would want to build or test after the course.
See all cohort dates and apply on the official BlueDot Impact Technical AI Safety course page.
