Full Program Details
Nollywood, Afrobeats, Lagos fashion week and the creative startups springing up in Nairobi all prove that culture is now big business. GLOCAL, short for Global Markets, Local Creativities, is a two-year Erasmus Mundus master's that studies exactly this link between local creativity, economic history and global markets. Its 2027-2029 scholarships are open to students from any country, and they cover the full cost of the degree.
The Erasmus Mundus scholarship covers all tuition fees, full insurance and a monthly allowance of EUR 1,400 for the two years of the programme.
Details at a glance:
- Host: GLOCAL Consortium, coordinated by the University of Glasgow
- Partner universities include Universitat de Barcelona, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Uppsala University, Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen, Kyoto University and Universidad de Los Andes, depending on your study track
- Level: two-year master's, 120 ECTS, starting September 2027
- Degree: joint or multiple degrees depending on your track
- Scholarship deadline (all tracks): 14 January 2027, 1:00pm UK time
What the Scholarship Covers
- Full tuition fees, including the deposit. Scholarship holders pay no tuition at all.
- Full insurance cover
- A monthly allowance for the whole two-year programme, paid in one of two ways:
- Option one: EUR 1,000 in August 2027, EUR 1,000 in May 2028 and EUR 1,000 in September 2028 for travel and settling-in costs, plus EUR 1,275 every month
- Option two: EUR 1,400 every month with no separate travel payment
Who Can Apply
- Students from any country can apply. To keep the cohort balanced, no more than six scholarships per nationality are awarded across four intakes.
- International applicants need a degree that meets the University of Glasgow's country-specific GPA requirements. UK applicants need a 2:1 honours degree.
- You must meet the English language requirements
- You must not have received an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship before
- You must hold a conditional or unconditional offer from the University of Glasgow by the scholarship deadline. If your offer is still on hold for documents on 14 January, you will not be considered.
How to Apply
- Choose one GLOCAL study track. You can only apply for one, and Track H is not recruiting for 2027.
- Apply through the University of Glasgow online application system linked on the GLOCAL How to Apply page. Applications by email are not accepted.
- Upload all supporting documents, including transcripts, a personal statement and proof of English.
- Arrange your references. They must be signed, on official letterhead or stamped, dated within 24 months, and sent from an institutional email address.
- Apply well before the deadline so Glasgow can issue your offer in time. You need that offer by 1:00pm UK time on 14 January 2027.
How Selection Works
- Personal statement: 40%
- Academic merit: 30%
- Relevant research or professional experience and other factors: 20%
- Quality of references: 10%
- Results are announced in April 2027, and a reserve list is kept
GizPulse Verdict
Who this is for: African graduates in economics, business, history, social science or the arts who want to work in the creative economy, cultural policy or international development and would enjoy studying in two or three countries.
Who should pause: If you cannot get your transcripts and references together in the next few weeks, the offer-by-deadline rule could rule you out. Start now rather than in January.
One tip to stand out: The personal statement carries 40% of the score. Use a concrete example from your own city, such as how a local music or fashion scene reaches global buyers, and explain which GLOCAL track will help you study it.
