About WeTech and This Partnership
WeTech is a nonprofit organisation working to close the gender gap in technology. The organisation connects women globally to digital skills, career training, and professional networks.
For this cohort, WeTech has partnered with Grow with Google and Coursera to cover the cost of Google Career Certificate programmes. Those courses run approximately $49 per month on Coursera without a scholarship. The scholarship removes that cost entirely for selected applicants.
The programme runs for six months. Participants commit approximately five hours per week and complete structured coursework through Coursera’s platform, with access to peer learning groups and progress accountability tools throughout.
What the WeTech × Google Scholarship Covers
Here is what selected applicants receive:
- Full, funded access to one Google Career Certificate track on Coursera, all course fees covered
- A Google Career Certificate upon completion, shareable to LinkedIn and recognised by major employers globally
- Hands-on projects in your chosen track that build a practical portfolio
- Peer learning groups and accountability tools for the full six-month duration
- Approximately five hours per week of structured, self-paced learning
Six Certificate Tracks and What Each Builds
IT support covers operating systems, networking basics, and hardware troubleshooting. The most accessible starting point for complete beginners, with no prior digital skills required.
Data analytics builds working knowledge of spreadsheets, SQL, Tableau, and R. One of the fastest tracks for entry into remote freelance work and junior analyst roles.
Cybersecurity covers risk mitigation, Python basics, and Linux command-line tools. Entry-level security analyst roles are among the highest-demand positions globally right now.
Digital Marketing and E-commerce Covers Google Ads, SEO, social media analytics, and e-commerce platforms. Directly applicable to freelancing, agency roles, or scaling an existing business online.
Project management covers agile, Scrum, and waterfall methodologies. Applicable across industries, not only tech companies.
UX design covers wireframing, prototyping, and user research. Course projects serve as live portfolio pieces; treat them that way from day one.
All six tracks are beginner-friendly. No prior experience is required for any of them.
Full Eligibility for the 2026 Cohort
Confirmed requirements:
- Identify as a woman
- Open to applicants worldwide, with no stated nationality restrictions
- No prior tech experience or academic degree required
- Must have access to a functional laptop or desktop computer
- Must have reliable internet connectivity for the full six-month programme
- Must commit approximately five hours per week
Documents and Information Required
The application form collects full name, gender, email address, phone number with international dialling code, LinkedIn profile URL, and country and city of residence.
Applicants select their preferred learning track, confirm weekly availability, and verify access to a laptop and internet connection. A short motivation section asks how you plan to manage the weekly commitment alongside other responsibilities and how the programme connects to your career goals.
That motivation section is where most applications succeed or fail. Write specifically. Vague answers “I want to learn tech” does not hold up against applicants who name a concrete goal and show they have thought about how to complete a six-month programme.
Timeline: The form takes under 20 minutes to complete. The motivation responses deserve at least 30 minutes of careful thought. With two days remaining, do both today.
How Nigerian Women Can Apply
The programme is open to applicants from all countries. Nigerian women can apply directly; no NYSC documentation is required. Coursera operates in Nigeria without restrictions, and the certificate earned is globally portable.
One practical note: six months of video-based learning on Coursera carries a data cost. Factor that into your planning before committing.
How to Apply Step by Step
- Visit the official WeTech application portal.
- Complete your personal information: name, email, phone with country code, LinkedIn URL, and location.
- Select your preferred learning track based on career outcome, not personal comfort.
- Confirm laptop and internet access.
- Write your motivation responses and be specific about your time management plan, and the role or outcome you are working toward
- Submit before April 30, 2026. No late applications have been indicated.
- Check your email. Selected applicants receive Coursera access details by email.
Common mistake: Naming a vague goal in your motivation response. Specify the role. “I want to qualify for junior data analyst roles,” and name one concrete step you have already taken toward it, however small. Specificity signals genuine intent.
WeTech has distributed Google Career Certificate scholarships in previous cohorts. The Grow with Google platform has a strong track record of employer recognition. The programme structure is six months, five hours per week, and peer accountability is realistic for working adults and students, provided you treat it as a fixed commitment rather than a background activity.
Best suited to women who are early in their tech journey, actively switching careers, or building freelance income in digital fields. The self-paced format is an advantage for those with full schedules and a risk for those without built-in discipline structures.
Data analytics and cybersecurity offer the fastest paths to remote work and global employability. If you are undecided, choose one of those.
