Every time a company pays for Ubuntu Pro, or a server gets a kernel security fix without a reboot, a Go service written by Canonical's Commercial Systems teams is doing the work behind the scenes. Canonical now wants an engineering manager in EMEA to lead one of those teams, and the role is open to people working from home anywhere in the region, Africa included.
About Canonical
Canonical publishes Ubuntu, the Linux distribution that runs a large share of the world's cloud servers, developer laptops and IoT devices. The company has been remote since it started in 2004 and now has more than 1,200 people in over 80 countries. It is founder led, profitable and still growing, and its teams meet in person a few times a year in different cities.
About the Role
Commercial Systems is a group of six engineering teams whose services sit at the centre of Canonical's revenue. Two of the teams hiring managers stand out. The Billing team runs a Go service that turns usage metrics into accurate invoices and lets customers see their spend at any moment. The Livepatch team builds the client and backend that deliver Linux kernel security patches to running machines, closing the gap between a vulnerability and the next maintenance window.
