Senior Android POS engineer roles in Nigeria rarely require this level of technical depth. Moniepoint’s open position demands real POS terminal experience, EMV standards, hardware integration, and offline transaction handling, not general Android work.
If you have shipped Android software that touches card readers, encrypted key management, or offline transaction flows in production, read on.
About Moniepoint
Moniepoint digitises Africa’s real economy: the corner shops, market traders, and small logistics businesses that banks have historically ignored. One platform handles payments, banking, credit, and day-to-day business tools. The POS terminal network is the delivery mechanism.
That scale is what makes this engineering role non-trivial. You are not building a demo. You are maintaining infrastructure that breaks if it goes down mid-market day.
What the Android POS Engineer Role Involves
- Feature development: Build and own Android POS terminal applications in Java and Kotlin. Take full end-to-end ownership of transaction logic: sales, refunds, reversals, and settlement.
- Payments integration: Implement EMV chip, contactless NFC, and card-present flows. Work with encryption standards, key management, and secure payment SDKs.
- Hardware integration: Connect and maintain POS peripherals, card readers, PIN pads, printers, and scanners via OEM SDKs, Bluetooth, USB, and embedded hardware layers.
- Offline-first architecture: Build edge-case handling for low-connectivity environments. Transactions cannot fail because the network does.
- Backend collaboration: Integrate REST APIs and WebSockets with backend teams. Keep transaction data in reliable sync.
- Code quality: Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, participate in code reviews, write testable code, and drive performance optimisation.
- Mentorship: Support mid-level engineers, help onboard new team members, and participate in sprint planning and technical design discussions.

Step 2: Prepare your CV with concrete results, not responsibilities. Quantify transaction volumes handled, systems maintained, or features shipped end-to-end.
Step 3: Prepare for a technical screening. Study EMV transaction sequencing and offline sync patterns before the call.
Step 4: Submit through Greenhouse. No hard deadline, but do not sit on a role with this specific profile.
GizPulse Verdict
The role has a narrow target profile. A real POS terminal experience is non-negotiable, not a general Android or a fintech-adjacent consumer app. If your background does not include EMV flows or hardware peripheral integration in production, do not apply yet.
To stand out: In your screening call, name a specific EMV flow or hardware integration failure you personally diagnosed and fixed in production. Depth beats breadth at this level.
