Role Overview

Cybersecurity company UpGuard is hiring a remote Content Writer for its growth team. Only open to applicants based in South Africa, with a US$1,500 yearly learning budget.

Apply Now

This role is only open to applicants based in South Africa. UpGuard lists it as remote, linked to Johannesburg or Cape Town.

People now ask ChatGPT and other AI assistants the questions they used to type into Google. Companies need writers whose work shows up in both places, and UpGuard wants a South African writer to do that for its cybersecurity brand.

About UpGuard

UpGuard builds a cyber risk platform that helps security teams track their own exposure and the risk that comes from vendors and other third parties. It combines security ratings, threat intelligence and AI agents in one product, and says it recently raised a US$75 million Series C. The company has offices in Sydney and Hobart but does not require anyone to work from them.

About the Role

You will join UpGuard's Growth Squad, report to the Content Writer Manager, and write content that answers the questions prospects and customers actually ask. You will:

  • Write in-depth articles that rank in search engines and appear in AI assistant answers
  • Explain cybersecurity and risk topics in clear, accurate language
  • Refresh older articles and pages so they stay current
  • Write and maintain fair, persuasive comparison and competitor pages
  • Publish your own work in the CMS, including headings, metadata, internal links and alt text
  • Review content performance with the Growth Marketing team and use what you learn on the next piece

About You

  • 3+ years of professional content writing, including SEO content, ideally in B2B SaaS or cybersecurity
  • A portfolio of long-form articles, comparison pages or other search-focused work
  • Solid SEO knowledge, including search intent, structure, internal linking and how AI search is changing it
  • Hands-on experience formatting content in a website CMS
  • The ability to turn technical topics into clear, trustworthy writing
  • Fluent written and spoken English, and a base in South Africa

Nice to Have

  • Content that has driven measurable traffic and leads
  • A background in cybersecurity, vendor risk or third-party risk management
  • Confidence editing AI-generated drafts into accurate, human writing

What UpGuard Offers

The posting does not state a salary. It lists a monthly lifestyle subsidy, a home office setup allowance, a US$1,500 yearly learning and development allowance, paid leave plus two extra UpGuardian leave days, 18 weeks of paid parental leave, top-spec laptops and paid subscriptions to generative AI tools.

If you are a South African writer who can make security topics easy to read, apply on UpGuard's official careers page: Apply for the UpGuard Content Writer role
